How To Extend The Longevity Of Your Body Spray

B

Body sprays are the most common choice of perfumes among men and women. Before going out for a meeting or to the office or to an evening function, you create a combination of beautiful notes to tantalise the olfactory sense of those around you. Body sprays offer a versatility that remains unmatched. You can mix the scents to transition easily from morning to event without overloading the senses. They give you the freedom to experiment and build a wardrobe of perfumes that suit every mood, occasion, and seasons.

However, it is quite a disappointment when the fragrance starts to vanish in a few hours. It is not about the brand you are using, it is how you use the scent is what matters in getting the most of your perfumed sprays without testing your patience.

Why Does Your Body Spray Scent Fade?

Body sprays last for anywhere from 2 to 4 hours comfortably. There are many factors, including but not limited to skin chemistry, environmental conditions, and placement, directly influencing the longevity of the spray.

For example, dry skin does not hold fragrance well, but oily skin smells good much longer. This is why probably; the same spray lasts only for 2 hours on your skin but lasts all day.

Tips And Techniques To Make The Fragrance Last Longer

To make the body spray last longer, you should create a balance between the choice of scent family, product, application technique, layering and skin care.  The aim is to slow down evaporation from skin, clothes, and hair.  Learn how:

Choose The Right Body Spray

  • Understand the scent notes. Woody, resin, musky amber, vanilla, etc. last longer than citrus and fruity ones. However light fragrances transition well from morning to evening with their heart notes.
  • Choose alcohol-free body sprays and prefer eau de parfum over alcoholic sprays.

Consider The Weather

  • Humidity hastens the evaporation, and dry air accelerates it. The higher the temperature, the less is the wear time. Heavy perfumes can be overwhelming in heat; prefer citrus or aquatic notes.
  • Cold lets the scents unfold slowly. Pick richer and spicier notes for all-day fragrance.

Prep Your Skin

  • Start fresh: Body spray works best when the skin is clean. The best time to apply perfume is after a shower or bath. The open pores let the spirit unfold well.
  • Moisturize: Timing is the key to boost fragrance longevity. Use an unscented moisturizer to increase the adhesion of scent to the skin. If a scented cream is the only choice, then pick one that compliments the spray odour.
  • Wait till the skin is dry: After moisturizing, wait for 3-5 minutes before using the body spray. Perfume on the hydrated skin gives a lingering aroma that lasts for a long time.
  • Spray directly on the skin: Body’s natural oils form a good base for the perfume to unfold its notes.

Application Points And Tips

  • Pulse points, or the areas where the blood flow is near the surface of skin, are wrists, behind the ears, back of knees, inner elbows, chest (near the heartbeat), and ankles, are the warmer areas of body. When the body spray is used on these points, the warmth helps the scent unfold naturally and last longer.
  • Don’t rub your wrists together after application. Let the fragrance dry completely on its own. Let your skin absorb the beautiful smell. Letting it dry naturally lets the inherent top, heart and base notes unfold gradually.
  • Spray and don’t mist. You get the most out of the product when it hits the skin directly.
  • The right distance between the body spray bottle and skin is about six to eight inches.
  • Use unscented Vaseline. It is the oldest trick in the book; use a bit of petroleum jelly on the pulse points and then use the body spray. Vaseline will prevent the skin from drying, making the perfume stay double the time. You can also use the jojoba carrier oil for similar benefits.

Layering

  • For a dramatic effect, layer from the ankles and then upwards. As the body temperature increases, the scent will waft through effectively.
  • Before applying one scent on the top of other, let the first one dry. Choose aromas that complement one another and do not overpower. When layering, use smaller amounts of body spray than you usually would.

Storage

The way you store the body spray affects immediate performance and longevity. Exposure to temperature and sun rays disturbs the content balance of the spray. Store the spray in a cool, dark place with the cap always in place.

Bonus Tips

  • Keep a travel-sized spray bottle with you at all times to reapply after a few hours.
  • Lightly spray some perfume on your hairspray for fragrance, or use a matching hair mist to create an alluring scent trail.
